CELEBRATE THE LIFE AND ART OF LUCAS CARLSON

Filed under: Visual Arts Division |  Exhibitions |  LeRoy Neiman Gallery

Please join family and friends of Lucas Tyler Carlson tonight for a celebration of his life and work.

Lucas Carlson, Untitled, c. 2005-2006, Oil on Canvas, 38

You are cordially invited to attend the opening reception of Lucas Tyler Carlson: Independent Imagination
in the Leroy Neiman Gallery tonight, Thursday, April 19, 2007, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 p.m

This memorial exhibition, organized by the LeRoy Neiman Center for Print Studies, commemorates the life and work of School of the Arts student Lucas Carlson, who passed away on November 16, 2006.  Lucas would have graduated from the program, as a printmaking fellow, on May 16, 2007.

Lucas’ family has generously given the LeRoy Neiman Center permission to install his work for the community at large.  He was a talented printmaker, painter, sculptor, installation artist and musician.  Included in this exhibition are video pieces, rap audio works he collaborated on with friends, a reinstallation of his MFA open studio project last seen in April, 2006, as well as paintings, sculpture, prints and drawings.  Lucas spent his undergraduate years at Columbia from 1994 – 1998 and began his MFA in printmaking in September 2005.  After completing his undergraduate program, he worked enthusiastically with children in local public schools, and this work included plans for an exhibition in the LeRoy Neiman Gallery to show the work of his students.
