Mission:
Founded Spring of 2003, the Arts Student Council (ASC) (formerly known as the Graduate Arts Council (GAC)) is a representative council which promotes dialogue, collaboration and a sense of community for students in the School of the Arts with the hope that they will not only look to each other as resources during their studies but leave with a network of peers in disciplines beyond their own. The council is made up of three students from each division – film, theatre, writing and visual arts – for a total of 12 members.

Funding for Graduate School of the Arts Student-organized Events:
Once each semester the ASC reviews applications for funding for student-organized events and activities that benefit the School of the Arts student body. This fund is comprised of the "student activity fee" each graduate student pays as part of his or her tuition and approximately $6,000 is available for allocation each semester. See the Funding Guidelines for more information.

Student Advocacy:
The ASC has made it a priority to be the voice of the School of the Arts Student Body. The ASC will address student problems/concerns; meet regularly with the Dean’s Office in finding resolutions for these issues; and communicate with students on changes to the SOA and tuition.

Events:
The ASC is working to create more creative and professional exhibitions, panels and workshops for students to showcase their work, and learn how to find employment in their field of study and other related fields of study.
